10 Easy DIY Savory Spice Blends That Can Help You Lose Weight

Spread the love

Spices have always been our foods best friends. without them everything is just bland and boring but just add a little of that magic powder and voila! everything now tastes better! here are 10 easy DIY spice blends that can help you lose weight!

Many people love junk food more than healthier ingredients because look and taste more delicious to them. but the truth is that the salt and fat ( or sugar) in these junk food makes them taste more pleasant to our brain. so by making the healthy food as tasty as the junk foods are, by yet keeping their benefits and lower calorie, everyone wins!

But this act is a very easy one. just use that tiny container on the corner of your kitchen that you are always thinking what should i do with that spice? by adding the related spices to almost any food, we can make them more interesting for our eyes by the color, for our nose by the smell and for our soul by the taste!

The love of yellow

As an Iranian girl, we tend to add turmeric to almost ANYTHING. every cooking recipe starts with adding turmeric and besides the health benefits which is actually a lot, i love the taste too! it also gives a nice warm yellow to the food and turns the redness of tomato puree richer. i think that the we the Iranians have a special obsession with the yellow color as we love to add saffron ( which the best saffron comes from Iran and its not that expensive there ) to our sweets. the rich and luxurious taste is just phenomenal.

Why adding spices to foods actually makes them better

The spices are also a true hero when it comes to imitating the tastes. sometimes i want to eat a rich salty or fatty food but i imitate that taste by using spices. or even when i don’t have any meats in hand, just by adding a little cinnamon, i make a hint of meat in the food. it’s amazing, right?

One of the other fascinating properties of adding spices to your foods is increased metabolism, specially hot spices. what else do you want? losing weight while eating tasty food? it’s the great combination!

The joy of DIY

These spice blends are so easy to make and store. just put them in a tight container at a cool/dry place. putting the spices in the fridge will make them taste weird. on the other hand, by making these spices at home, you can make sure that nothing harmful such as preservatives are inside them and you are aware of the allergies too! believe me, once i bough a salad spice mix, and they didn’t mention that it included red pepper powder which i am highly allergic to it and the outcome was terrible!

Personally, i have a huge cabinet full of different spices. my favorite part of cooking is when i add them to the food and everything changes from bland to just perfect. i also love going to the weekly farmers market and buy the spices from them in bulk since i know its more fresh, organic and natural.

I love cooking with chicken, and one of the things that makes it even more exciting for me is adding different flavors and spices every time. you can check my ultimate Mediterranean Diet 2020: Free Meal Plan & Beginner’s Guide if you are interested!
